Of all the modifications I've made to my boat, I'm most impressed with the "trap return system."
In addition to making the transition to the wire much smoother, the bungee doesn't pull me or my crew forward when we're aft on a reach or downwind. It also makes the boat easier to rig as it's already anchored under the tramp. I know it looks complexed but it's really simple.

Stephen The rules are silent regarding trapeze shock cord return systems (both the general rules and the Hobie 16 rules). However, General Rule 9.4 states: [quote]9.4 No portion of the deck, or deck flange where present, shall be altered, removed, cut down, or in any way modified except as allowed herein. The rear transom flanges, where present, may be notched a maximum of 2 in. (5 cm) to accept larger gudgeons or to repair breakout at the rudder pin. Water tight deck access portholes may be installed.â€

Not that it makes any difference to me because I do not race, are the second holes behind the shrouds, not from a righting system? If yes, is that system stock? If they are stock, can you not use them for different purpose than originally intended? Sam

On the stock boats, there is only one hole on the outside of the deck lip for the shroud attachment.

Not to change the subject, but I am sorta upset that this so called "one design" class (H16), where you can't drill an extra hole, saw wisdom in building lighter boats, thereby making virtually all of the older boats uncompetitive. What say you about that?

Forgive my ignorance, but if an old boat is maintained it should still be competitive with occasional mods etc. (In a one design class) The new hobie with lighter hulls, different profile rudders etc etc is a damn fine boat but is quicker which is an unfair advantage over the older boats - money again determines who wins. To retrofit and modify the older boats to a newer spec is too expensive. Maybe hobie should make the parts more affordable for the rest of us. In todays age hobie has to be competitive with newer design, manufacturing and material choices etc, so it is nice to see the new machines. Surely the handicap rating would be different, or should be. The trap guides that hobie sell in the catalog don't mention whether they are race legal or not - mounted under side rails. Personally I think it is too far back for my use, extension catching.
