I replaced a bent mast today with a new(used) mast... my old mast tang had 2 holes drilled in it one for the shrouds and one for the trapeze. The new mast tang ony has one hole. so do i put all the 6 wires, 2 shroud and 4 trapeze wire on the same shackle? It seems like alot of stuff on the same shackle? |

Sounds like it has the wrong tang. It might be a tang for an old boom vang. Take it off and put the correct one from your old mast or buy a new one from Hobie. |

Sometime in the late 70's the mast tang was updated to the current configuration. The original may be used but you'll need either an over-sized shackle, or alternatively, hang one additional shackle on each side for the trapeze wires only. A 4" angle grinder makes rivet heads disappear quick, if you want to install the newer tang. |

The same thing happened to me when I bought a used mast after mine got bent, my old mast had 2 holes in the tang and the new one had only one hole. I used one large shackle for the shrouds and another for the trapeeze, never had any problems. I will probably put my 2 hole mast tang on it when I get the time or feel the need. John G. |

Thanks for the quick replies guys. It just seems like alot to ask of one single shackle but I'll give it a try and go with the 3 shackle option. |

Like those guys said, put them all on one shackle. If you have the single hole tang, inspect it for cracks often. |

Five wires go on the bow of the shackle (crew trap / shroud / forestay / shroud / crew trap). Skipper's trap goes on the pin of the shackle with the tang in the middle. Kind of like this (from a 14 w/trapeze): ![]() |

I agree. Drill the rivets out and put the tang off your bent mast on. |
