Post subject: | some sail issues |
Well, had a great day of sailing today until I tipped, got all caught up and fell right through my trusty old mainsail...it came apart like wet toilet paper....happy times. The tear is between the boom and the first batten, moving aft, up then down all the way clear through the leach end and leaving about an icnh of intact sail at the stitching by the luff. It's an old tired sail, so is it worth repair with this kind of damage, if it can be repaired at all? If not, any one around here have any leads on a used main? I was thinking of just forking out for new one....but saving a few clams would be nice.... Thanks for the help!! ..raven |

if the sail was old enough that you could fall through it it probably isn't worth fixing. the good news is that a newer sail will hold shape a lot better and will probably result in faster sailing. hold on to your battons though, those always seem to be worth keeping |

Yeah, trying to track down a used main around here (Nova Scotia)....will probably just buy a new sail. Do new sails have warranty? |

Scored a set of used sails today, and a mast to boot. Not too bad shape, need to replace some grommets and rivet a couple batten pockets....Should be sailing tomorrow!!! There is one small tear (about 1/2" on the main), should I patch it or slap on some sail tape for now???? Thanks...raven. |
