My 2006 Outback has a 3.5" long crack in the seat area at the bottom of one of the 'gutters' . I'm considering bolting/gluing a thinnish secondary 'plate' piece on top of it so as not to more evenly stress the area (when my 155lb body sits there) and not directly stress the crack any further. Any thoughts on a better solution. Thanks all! Pictures of the crack: https://www.flickr.com/photos/150245377 ... 0659948236 (I couldn't figure out how to embed the pictures in this message). |

I would recommend looking up videos on plastic welding. There are a lot of videos on repairing cracks in hulls. The nice thing is that the hull is pretty much good as new when you are done. I would watch the videos but I think one key step is to drill a hole at each end of the crack to stop its spread. Then they often widen the crack and then fill with new plastic. That is a pretty vague description but it should help you find the correct videos. I used plastic welding to fill a hole when I moved my anchor trolley and it seems as strong as the rest of the hull. My nephew dropped his kayak and cracked it a few years back and did a plastic weld to fix it. Worked (and is still working) like a charm. |
