Outbacks are just a bit too heavy for the Thule Hullavator and Yakima Showboat. Anyone had experience with devices to assist a single-handed loading of a 2019-style Outback up onto a van? Thanks. |

If your van has a sloped front end, you might try making a set of removable pvc "bull horns" for the hood, and load from that end. I use to do that with an older outback, but not on a van. The $10 set og glass lifters from Harbor Freight was cut in half. PVC was used to build bull horns that are attached to the hood. Place the bow on the horns, and push from the back of the boat onto the rof racks. You might need a second set of horns on the windshield. |

Thanks. A bit beyond my mechanical capabilities—history major. If I get desperate, will keep in mind. |

Check out Rhino Rack’s hitch mounted T-Bar. If I remember correctly, it can be pivoted/lowered to an angle that will accept the bow, then you walk the hull up to the roof using the T-Bar as a lever. I didn’t go with it because it blocked my truck’s tailgate, but if your van has double doors it might work for you. |

Thanks. Yes, that Rino rack looked like a good possibility. Decided to go with the EZ-Rec rack. Expensive and rather complicated, but it ought to —I’m really hoping!— give me the extra boost and stability I’ll need. I’ll post an update on how it goes this summer. |
