Hello,

New to the forum, so if this a repeat question please send me to the original. I did a search and didn't find what I was looking for.

I purchased the Hobie Passport 12.0 in the Slate color earlier this year. This our second kayak and so far we have enjoyed it. I tried fishing with it for the first time last saturday and realized the track mount is sits at angle on either side of the kayak and is not "level". Also noticed that the area where the track mount is located will flex when the rod holder is installed with just the weight of the rod. I will admit that my fishing rod is a little heavier than some others since i use leadcore line.

My questions are:

1) Is this angle they sit at normal?
2) How much flex is to be expected?
3) Can this be re-enforced?

Beyond these questions/concerns, i love this kayak so far.

Recently received my Passport 12 and have similar concern with track mount. On my second trip I had my Scotty rod holder ripped clean out of the track by a fish with Rod and Reel going overboard. I was able to recover my gear but the rod holder was lost. I ordered a replacement and chose the YakAttack Omega as the base was much larger so hoping it adds some support. I also moved my remaining Scotty into the YakAttack paddle holder which uses 2 cleats in the gear track and then added leashes to all my poles. Leashes are annoying but better than losing a rod.
I love the low profile nature of the gear track but strength is not it's best feature.

I wanted to bump this topic. Since purchasing my kayak 3 weeks ago I’ve had two rod holders rip out. That being said I am running divers so there’s considerable stress. I’ve searched everywhere to see if anyone makes an aluminum upgrade, as the plastic seems to get soft in the sun. I’ve been looking at other tracks etc but was wondering if anyone had any advice on this
