I got a call from my local dealer that the Lynx was available, so I went and bought it. This is my first kayak, and I purchased it in order to fish from it (to replace my drift boat) and to spend time with my wife who is a recreational kayaker. This, however, brings me to my question. We'd like to transport her recreational kayak and the Lynx on the top of the same Subaru Forrester. She has the Yakima Jay Low (I think that's what it's called) setup and it works great. We've learned the most efficient ways to strap the boat to the cradle and can get the boat mounted in just a few minutes. It wasn't until I already handed over my credit card that I realized the the owner's manual of the Lynx specifies that the kayak can be transported face down directly on a roof rack or face up in a cradle. It doesn't talk about transporting it sideways on a J-Hook. The boat itself is 35-36" wide at its widest point, and I can find J-Hooks for kayaks that are 36" wide, but I'm not sure about using these with the Lynx as the owners manual doesn't talk about carrying it that way on the top of a car. What are your thoughts? We PROBABLY can fit the J-Hooks for my wife's boat as well as the Lynx flat on the Forrester, but I'd honestly rather use J-Hooks for the Lynx if it seems like a good idea. I am waiting for h rail kit for lynx.......is it ok to grab and lift lynx by the h rails.....is it ok to put on car roof rack upside down on h rails......would rail bolts inserts handle the stress..... |

Having the kayak be supported by H rails upside down would be preferred from our standpoint. It would keep the kayak away from the rack which could do considerable damage if you were to travel for long distances. Replacing an H rail or two is much better than repairing the kayak. |
