Hi,

I love the weight of the Lynx, but it apparently comes at the cost of fragility. I've taken it out 3 times transported by cartop.
It's already got a couple of dings in the side which aren't a big deal, but a crack on the bottom. No mishandling or anything. I'd just like to know the best way to fix this so we can continue to use it, and was curious if it was a warrantable issue.

I attached a couple of images, and realized the crack in the bottom has no scale. It's about an inch across.
thanks for any suggestions, and I suppose the warranty question is directed at Matt.

You can fix dings in a Bic Ace Tec SUP with epoxy. Here's a link to instructions from the manufacturer:

I assume that since the Lynx hulls are made by Bic the same process will work. Matt can correct me if I'm wrong.

Can you share any info about how you think you got the crack?

I'm starting to get really paranoid about this $2600.00 investment that needs to be treated like a piece of delicate glass.

Right now, I'm car topping mine similar to the bottom photo in the Lynx manual on the bottom of page 20. Upside down, stern facing the front of the car, with straps around the kayak and the car's crossbar and two kayak-specific 'blocks' on the crossbars to keep the crossbar from touching the kayak itself. I then have a bow and stern line to the tow loop at the front of my car and my trailer hitch in the back.

As I am applying pressure to the kayak at 4 points, I am not tightening any of them a bunch, but I still worry that I'm going to cause damage to the kayak.

Thoughts on this?

Hi,

We've been pretty gentle with the kayaks, we got two actually. The sand colored one seems to have the issue with the cracks.

The small one on the side is no big deal. There is a little lip that sticks out where the top and bottom come together, and it just chipped off a bit. It's possible we cut a corner too close carrying it around the house or something.

The other crack on the bottom is a bit odd. It's probably an inch and a half across. The only thing I could think was that it hit the crossbar as we were putting it onto the car, based on where the crack is.

We've been cartopping them stacked with the top up, but I don't think that's an issue. I understand that they're made to be stackable.

The big upside is that they seem really easy to repair.

I'm not sure. Seemed more aerodynamic that way. I could easily be talked out of it.
