I have two mainsails. I would like to convert one, (the older one) to a boomless, "sport" style. Can I just buy the boomlet and attach it? Or is it something I have to take to a sail loft to retrofit. The main I'll be using is a 1986. |

The boomlet requires a "luff" rope style attachment along the sail foot that a sailmaker can install. I suggest getting the boomlet and taking it to a sailmaker. The boomlet pins to the clew plate. The rest hangs from the rope sewn to the sail. That will show them how to do it. We also add large reinforcements to the foot to disperse the laods. Similar to the 2-3 running up the leech area. |

is the boomlet different than the clew traveller system that comes with the sport model or do they work together? Can I just use the boomlet or do I need both? In the catalog it looks like the boomlet has a block hanger. That would work fine for what I'm looking for. Just casual cruises with the family, not ultimate "tune-abilty". I'll keep the full boom for that. |

The Boomlet is the newer, lighter and simpler version for clew attachment on Sport 17s. We went away from the heavy Harken setup in 1995. It is also longer and enabled a "unisex" sail that works on both Sport "boomless" and Race (SE) versions of the 17. |
