I would like to change my worn plastic boom cleats for the rotator and downhaul lines to aluminum. I notice that the nuts in the boom track are not frozen in place and am afraid to remove the screws and have the nuts fall to the bottom of the track.

Does anyone know of a method to get the screws back into the nuts after changing cleats?

Cleats...

Perhaps remove the forward end casting if you have to.

We have replaced the outhaul cleat by mounting a new cleat on the top of the boom, same as the rotation arm cam cleat. You can insert the nut in boom slot, without removing the end cap. Lift the nut up with a small screwdriver, under the nut, then insert the screw thru the new cleat. Turning the boom over, also makes this installation easier.

I took the aft casting off, since eventually, you'll need to replace the outhaul line. I never did rivet it back on. A piece of duct tape kept it on for years.
