Post subject: | Hobie 17 sail |
I have a 1988 Hobie 17. The mylar has totally delaminated from the dacron [?] sail. I'm guessing the mylar is to prevent stretching and bulging. Four questions: Am I losing much 'power' beause sail is now porous ? Can anyone recommend a coating that will help. What approx. is a new sail worth from Hobie ? From _ _ _? What is a flat top sail? Is it cure for 17's poor sailing in small breeze? OK thats more than 4 questions. Thanks in advance for any help. Eric: Old sail is toast, off to dumpster!!!. If you want to race class you will have to get a new Hobie sail. BUT how many 17's are there in your area? I have very few except at maybe two regattas. I bought a Pentex squaretop to race Portsmouth and add a Sport jib package and a 190 sq ft Pentex reacher. The squaretop makes a LOT on difference in light air and either of these setups has GREAT Portsmouth ratings. If you have more questions call me. Doug Snell 281 326 2702 |
