Can anyone give a measurement for the boom bale (main block hanger) location on the 17 Sport boomlet?

I've got an old chunk of H14 mast from a comptip conversion that I'm working on making into a boomlet for days when I want to bring a passenger along on the 17. I realize using a piece of mast section is a bit overkill for this, but I've got it laying around, so might as well give it a shot. Will post some pics when I'm done.

Just don't get hit in the head!

The boomlet block hanger is in a similar position to the standard boom's hanger when measured from the clew attachment.

On the boomlet the hanger is 13 1/2" forward of the aft end. The aft end would be approx at the sail leech when installed on the sail.

Definitely. I'm going cut some fairly large holes in the section to try to take some weight out of it, but yea, if it ends up being a head knocker, then I won't use it. So far, I don't really have anything invested in the project other than time.

Thanks for your help.

Yes! Please post pics and tell us how the project turns out. I've considered making a boomlet myself.
