Post subject:  Hobie 17 Wing Socket repair

I have had a couple Hobies, but this is my first 17. I noted a comment about frozen water cracking tubes and checked mine. The starbord forward socket leaks badly.

Since the plastic cap at the end of the wing tube is badly damaged I suspect physical damage rather than freeze damage (the other 3 sockets are water tight.

I saw some comments about these sockets having some issues and comments about repairing them, but no details.

Does anyone have detailed description (with pictures if possible) of how they made such repairs?

I have ordered (2) 6" ports to cover the hole I'll need to make to access the tube (second port will go in port hull for a balanced look). I assume to repair the forward socket I will cut in behind the socket and cross bar and ahead of the centerboard trunk.

I appreciate any comments/help from folks that have done this.

The forum search function is really good:

http://www.hobiecat.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=47733&p=213384&hilit=wing+tube+repair#p213384

Link to search is at the upper right of any forum page.

Found this album link at the top of the topic, but three are a lot more posts about the subject.
