Is there any difference between the two mainsails other than $$$ Back in the day white was always "considered" lighter in Dacron, but was wondering if there is any difference with the Mylar? |

It's interesting that "back in the day," competitive racers always used plain white sails. Some of the reasons being - 1) white are the cheapest, so lest cost to change out sails every year 2) easier to hide in a fleet of white sails if you're over early at the start 3) white sails are built more consistently than multi-color or custom sails 4) multi-color sails may have inconsistent stretch from panel to panel due to material variations as compared to single color sails. I guess with today's level of quality control, the last two reasons may no longer apply, but it seems there are a lot fewer plain white sails on the race course than there used to be. sm |

But I agree, in North America, we've gotten away from all white sails. |

Most of the colored sails in that photo are custom color patterns ordered from Hobie Cat Co. The palette is somewhat limited.You'll need to work with a Hobie dealer to place the order, and depending on the sail production schedule, it can take some time to receive your sail. |
