Hi All, Today I filled the 4 wing tubes on my Hobie 17 with water. I could easily see the rear tubes leaking water. What are your recommendations; fix the leaking wing tubes via the transom or via a hole in the deck between the tube(s) and the rear cross beam? |

I would definitely not go through the transom. There are reinforcements back there for the rudder gudgeons that you would have to deal with - just seems like a bad idea. I think going in with a 5" port holein the deck would be your easiest bet. Or cut an access hole in the deck, do the repair, and then put the piece of deck back on. It's really not that difficult, I'm working on something similar right now on an 18. sm |

If the leaks are not too bad (tube cracked, not completely broken), you can make the repair from inside the wing tube. See the "This Old Hobie - Leaks" article in the Fall 2015 HCANA Hotline magazine - http://www.w1dm.com/Projects/HOTLINE/15-2HOTLINE.pdf |
