Just bought a 85 Hobie H17 in Denver, CO. The current one looks like it is set up for a "boomlet" but the boat came with a full boom. The sail is in decent condition but is delaminating and has ugly 80's colors. Let me know what you have (color, price, and condition and if it is a Hobie sail or aftermarket). Just an FYI - all the Hobie-branded sails come with the short boltrope on the clew for the boomlet. Far easier (and cheaper) to make just one type of sail than separate sails for the 17SE and 17 Sport. Unless you're planning to race, I'd go with an aftermarket sail. The class-legal sails don't last very long and used ones tend to be very used. |

For an aftermarket sail, does anyone recommend a good brand/company and what type of weight/material/cost is best to hold up over time. Sometimes you get what you pay for and I want this to be a good investment |

Go to Chip, of Whirlwind Sails, he used to run the sail loft at Hobie. He did a great job on my custom H18SX sails. Look up Whirlwind on the web for your style and options. Then try sailmakerchip at gmail dot com |
