Post subject: | H17 Q's |
Hi, I have a few Q's that I hope can be answered here regarding my Hobie 17 with Super Jib... 1. What is the distance from the bottom of the Mast Ball to the Crossbeam? 2. How much "Pre-bend" or "deflection" should I have set-up on the Front Crossbeam using the tension nuts on the Dolphin Striker? 3. How far forward of the Transom Plumb Line should the Rudder leading edges be for a "Ball Park" figure? 4. Has anyone used a spinnaker on a H17? if so how did you setup up the rigging and pole? I have a Spi designed for a H16 and plan to use that. 5. If anyone is using the H17 Super Jib, can you please let me know the Part Number of the Jib Blocks that you use? Are they the same as used on the H18? Enough Q's for now....and Thanks very much for your assistance in advance. Nige |

1/ The only spec I have on that is from Hobie 20's. Same ball system and mast base. 1 7/16" 2/ Tension the striker till the slop is removed. I wouldn't tension much more than that. 3/ Rudder rake standard measurements as I recall them: Measure, from the bottom of the rudder casting, down 12" and make a horizontal mark on the blade. Measure, from the front of the blade on the horizontal line, back 1 3/8" and make a vertical mark. That mark should be on the center axis of the rudder pin for a balanced blade with slight weather helm. You can pull a line (snap line) along the center axis of the rudder pin and see if the mark on the blade is positioned properly. Be sure you still have a slight weather helm feel when on a reach. You do not want a neutral or negative pressure on the tiller. That is dangerous and difficult to control. That all I have. |

Thanks very much for your reply. I'll try the rudder rake adjustment this weekend....I suppose this will also vary on Mast Rake. Thanks again for your help. Nige |
