So yesterday a crack in the port hull of my Hobie 17 opened up to a full split. It is about 3 feet aft of the tip of the bow, and about one foot down from the top of the deck. The split itself is about 6" long. It cracked the fiberglass completely... you can see inside the hull. Any suggestions on repairs? I'll try to get pictures tonight... a friend is borrowing my camera. |

Inside or outside of the hull? What's your sail number? (I may know your boat) Horizontal, outside the hull. Not sure of my sail number. My boat is a collaboration of many different boat parts. The original boat was damaged in a storm on a Lake Michigan beach. Only the hulls, tramp, wings, and one rudder survived. I have since purchased and installed H18 rudders, an H18 mast, and H16 sails. |

OK, I don't know your boat. Horizontal on the outside of the hull is weird. I'll wait for pictures. Might be the edge of an old repair. |

E-mail me at djanddale"at"charter.net. I just fixed two large holes in a Hobie. I have pictures of how I repaired it and best of all I'm only about 20 minutes away from you. Dutch town starts with a Z. We have talked before. Matt B. is an expert so don't ever discount what he says. |

Doug I haven't hit anything. Like I said above, the boat was wrecked on the shore of Lake Michigan during a storm. The mast was destroyed, a rudder, and a wing was bent a bit. The hulls took some damage too. |

Replied with E-mail & pictures. Bummer on the boat, I'm now looking for a place to keep mine on the water. The raising & lowering of the mast is a pain.

Sorry I didn't see earlier post about storm damage. I had a hull on mine when I bought basket case for $600, with ripped out wing holes. I just found a good used hull for $550 and swapped it out. That looks like a LOT of work to repair and i think would add a lot of weight to boat. I have had no problem with swapped out used hull. Doug |

Doug may be right. If you can find a used hull it will be faster to get on the water. It won't be much more expensive than fixing your hull. I know I had about $150 in epoxy, cloth, and gelcoat in repairs. Time wise I had several hours for many days, I hate sanding but the best part is you can't tell where the repair was made.
