I asked this question in a reply to a thread over on the H16 forum but I thought that I might start a dedicated thread here too. Has anyone ever swapped H16 hulls onto a H14? If so, how did the boat handle?

It wouldn’t be that simple. The pylon spacing front to back isn’t the same on both boats. You’d have to use the longer side bars from the 16. But then the 14 tramp would be too small, so you’d have a big gap between the main tramp and the aft srtip. The shroud attachment is also different. So you’d have to transfer the shroud tangs from the 14 side bars to the 16 side bars, or make longer shrouds that reach the anchors on the Hobie 16 hulls.

You would also need to adjust the forestay/ bridle lengths to reach the longer bows of the 16. The boom bale for hanging the main block would also need to shift aft to line up with the rear crossbar.

Lots of little things that when added up probably don’t make it worth the effort.

Thanks for the reply. I had considered the need for custom rigging but failed to consider the pylon spacing and all of the challenges that would create.
