Post subject: | Identifying a HobieCat without obvious serial number |
Hello, I have read various posts and the FAQ about reading serial numbers. However I can't find anything engraved on my boat's transoms or pylons, apart from the same number that is written on the sail - 40138. Is there any way of identifying boats by the sail number? I think it's an original H14T rather than an H14 with a Turbo kit added. Judging by the styling I think it's of '80s vintage... Thanks for your help |

That's a mid-80's sail number. The 14T (as produced by Hobie Cat) was introduced in 1983. However, you really can't tell unless you find the hull number on the boat. For a while, they were engraving them vertically, right behind the rudder pin, so they're hard to see with the rudders on the boat. |

Thanks, I will have another look under the rudders! |
