I am sure I am missing something, but I did a search and didn't see anything making a simple suggestion for best material to use for halyards and for sheets. This is for someone who doesn't know much about rope. Please recommend specific brands/models of rope. I bought some of this yale crystaline for my halyard and found it much too slippery. http://www.apsltd.com/c-1617-crystalyne-yale.aspx |

I assume you don't have a Comptip, since you can only use the Hobie Comptip halyard with it. Halyard - 3/16" (5 mm) polyester double braid. New England Ropes Finish Line or Marlow Super Pre-stretch. If you're going to leave it in the sun, don't bother with colored line. They'll fade quickly. Sheet - 5/16" (8 mm) non-kinking line. New England Ropes Bzzz Line ($), New England Ropes Salsa ($$), Paraloc Marlin ($$), Maffioli Swiftcord or NewSwift ($$$). Each has a different "feel". The NER and Maffioli lines are very soft. Paraloc is harder, but I tried it at the H-14 NAs and I like it. Keep your eye on APS' sale line (spool ends and returns). I've bought mainsheets ~ 50% cheaper than if I'd bought it off the spool. |

I've had good results using Flight Line http://www.layline.com/product/2547/710 for my H17Sport. The thick outter jacket helps the line last longer. ![]() |
