Post subject:  hobie 14 boom vang

I just recently bought a 3:1 standard boom vang (2073). I am fairly new to sailing and would appreciate some instruction on how to properly attach, rig and use this on my hobie 14.
Thanks

The boat would have to have a small tang on the boom 2-3 feet aft of the mast. Hang the fiddle block there. The open hook is to be hooked to the tramp opening on the outer end of the front crossbar. Tension to hold the boom over when sailing downwind only. Be sure to release and unhook before doing a gybe.

Thanks Matt,
I believe I have it attached correctly. I'm not sure if I have the rope going through the blocks correctly. The boom vang I bought is on page 27 of the Hobie catalogue. Is the fiddle block the black one or the stainless steel one? According to the catalogue, the upper block has a cam cleat for easy release and tensioning but this is not obvious to me and can't seem to figure that out either.
Thanks
Chris

The fiddle is the stainless one. It has a "V" jam cleat.

Thanks again.
Can you explain how to properly attach the the rope and thread it through the blocks? Any pics would be great.

These usually come assembled...

1) Tie to the bullet bock.

2) Run to the Fiddle V jam block, enter the side opposite the V jam and go around the sheave (opposite the attachment end).

3) Run to and around the bullet block.

4) Back to the V jam enter from the side opposite the V jam and out so you can pull the line up into the V.

5) Attach the hook cable to the bullet block.

6) Hang the V jam block from the boom.

I have been meaning to thank you for a while for your help. The boom vang has worked extremely well and I have managed to get some great sailing in.
Thanks again
