i was sailing at sea with small but frequent waves and the mast was bumping around a bit too much until one of the side adjuster broke, probably because of a wrong leverage. I was wondering how much sould i tension the side and the front shrouds for sea sailing, since when we have a nice wind we also have waves. When it broke i had the standard 120 degrees on the side shrouds as suggested elsewhere in this forum... thanks... |

I sail with a very tight rig. I also do alot of ocean sailing, 1-3 foot seas and lots of boat wake. I leave my rig very loose when on the beach, but I take all the slack out when I go out. |

how much do you tension the front shroud? i've seen many left loose while the side were tensioned, but in this way doesn't the mast bangs anyway? |

Do you have a 14 or 14 turbo? If you have a turbo then the forestay will be loose when you raise the jib. If you don't have a jib then you want the rig as tight as you can reasonably get it. Often this means raising the mainsail so that you can sheet in with the mainsheet and pull the rig tighter, and then adjust the side-shrouds tighter while the tension is on the mainsheet.

i have a 14, do i tension the rig with any wind? i heard that it has to be loose with light winds |

If you locate the Hobie University .PDF there's a whole section on setting up the H14 that could answer your questions better than I can, but at least if you're in waves you'll want it tight to prevent the slamming around. |
