I just picked up an H14 and am not quite sure how to unlock the rudders once in the down position. Can any one help? |

Make sure the rudder cam is in the correct position. Wouldn't hurt to add a little marine lube to them to keep them moving smoothly. To lock, push the tiller cross bar back until the rudders are completely down then push down on the tiller cross bar until it locks into place. |

To unlock the rudders, pull up sharply on the tiller arm to pop the arm free from the cam. Then pull the tiller forward untill the rudder is kicked all the way up and rest the tiller arm onto the lower casting where it should remain held up. Or you can just sail the boat right up onto the beach and they should automatically kick up (assuming the system is working properly). This of course can be hard on the rudders, so if you have nice rudders, it's best to kick them up before you hit the beach. sm |
