High is a term relative to the depth of your pocket and your desire. I think soft spots are caused by delamination which is a combination of heat and age. I fixed my soft spots with "Git-Rot". It works really well. You can find my own post on this and the solutions offered. |

I have had about 6 hobie 14s in the last 6 years, and if the boat is in good condition, and you don't have to spend any money to get it on the water, then $1600 is a fair deal. You gotta figure it this way, buy some 14 on ebay for $700. Get it home $300(?) add jib $225, add furler $75, tramp $300, rigging $110, stick $100, blocks $200, comptip $200, trailer $200, gel coat $100, new main $750, battens $150 (you could have a piss pot full of money into a 14 turbo by the time you're done.) ![]() Good luck. |

![]() Good luck. Actually, I paid $300 for mine on Ebay plus $400 for the trailer. I have bought a new tramp, lots of Got-Rot, a couple of stays and some paint. Right now I am on about $1,000 in total but how do you price the number of hours? And it still is probably not in as good a condition as the one in the first post. |

Now add the 'turbo factor' to the Grand you've spent and the time you've spent and I'll be you have a ton more than $1600. |

Of course, the real thing is that I did not have a spare $1600 to swing past my wife's check consolidation! I looked for ages in the local press for a Hobie and never saw a one. No sooner had I bought mine than they started to appear occasionally. In England we call that Sod's Law. |

I bought my 1985 turbo 14 last Spring for $1100.00. It was in near perfect condition and garage kept. Here is a pic: http://pirates.dwebz.net/pics/saiiling1 ... 000001.jpg My boat is the one with the Hobie Cat logo on the side. Danny |

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... AMEWA%3AIT Doug There is now less than four hours to go and it is presently at $290. I recommend a last 15 seconds bid $100 over whatever it is at if you want it. |

It went for $430, which considering it included a trailer is a hell of a bargain. |

My buddy Ryan was lucky enough to get it. He is a school teacher and doesn't make as much as Donald Trump so I am glad he got a good deal on it. He wanted it so he had a boat for the 14 NAs here. He, as the rest of us in Div 7, are pumped up about the 14s coming to Iowa. |

I was looking at that boat so i remember the ad saying that it had no boom. You should tell your buddy to check this. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... otohosting |

He saw that, and already has an old 16 boom to cut down to size. He and his father are road tripping down to LA to pick up the boat and survey what Katrina damage they might see. He is a science teacher and will probably make some sort of class project out of it if I know him. |
