Stupid question perhaps. Is there any way of reefing a hobie 14 turbo or reducing sail.I guess a stock answer would be to buy something more sedate but for the odd occasion that you might take the mother in law etc |

You could get reef points fitted to your sail, my old sail has a reef point just above the 2nd batten from the bottom. |

You can remove the jib. I would also suggest no reefing the main. If you want to reduce power, travel it out and sheet it tight. Also, use plenty of down haul. This combination of things reduces the angle of attack, reducing the lift of the sail, and flattens the sail which also reduces the lift. |

You can not reef if the mast is a CompTip version. The head of the sail has to be full hoist and locked in with the halyard. The plastic track cannot hold the head in otherwise. |

Do not remove the jib. It is way more useful. It is ok to furl it a bit for emergencies but not a standard practice. |
