| Post subject: | Delrin screws and plungers |
I've tried to search for this solution, and apologize if it's been covered, but I have aquired an old, old H14. In the rudder housings, the delrin screws are totally butchered and the plungers are immovable. I have the new parts, and new cam kits, and I would love to get some advice on how best to remove the old screws, springs and plungers. Do I use heat, as one guy suggested, or do I driill out the old screws and try not to screw up the threads in the housings in the process? I would appreciate some good advice. I have raced Snipes for over 30 years, so I do know Port from Starboard, but am I new to Hobies, and would love some tips. |

http://home.earthlink.net/~mattson/hobie/archives/v1-i8/feature2.htm Hi, I just followed the instructions above, the only thing was when I tapped out the old threads, it was much easier tapping them out one way as opposed to the other, you just have to flip over the casting. I was suprised how fused the old screw was to the casting, you will need the 3/4" bolt. [/url] |

Thanks for your advice and the reference to the article. That's a huge help. The boat is in Brazil, so I will know what to take with me on our trip down there in June. Happy Sailing. |
