I come from a 16 and Prindle and am putting this together for my kids. Can someone explain how the jib is raised and lowered? Is it just permanently attache to the swivel whilst the mast is down and then goes up when the mast is stepped? then does the forestay actually have to be tensioned as opposed to the 16. ARRRRGGHHHHH :)

You attach the jib with the swivel to the mast at the hound, raise the mast and attach the jib to the furler. The jib is always on if the mast is raised, the luff wire is made into it. I know of at least one guy who had a 14 jib coverted to 18 style (with a zipper) by a sail maker. I think the same guy might have had one coverted to 16 style as well. I lower my mast with the jib furled and leave it that way in storage tied up with a bungee. When I sail it next I hook it up and throw the mast up. There is no tensioning that I'm aware of but am in no way an expert, I don't use my turbo much at all.

Once the mast is up, you tension the rig by adjusting the shrouds. I have to loosen mine just to get the mast up and down.
