Dan Berger - Can you post a pic of your assembled mast rotator and boom attachment? Which rotator arm did you use? How far up from bottom of the mast is it? Thanks, Paul Bommersbach |

I'll post a pic over the weekend. Just finished mine last night. Ended up cutting all the stops off the mast step. The rotator is a few inches below the blackband tape. With an older sail you might want to go lower than what I have since my sail is new. Bob

My Rotator is located 14" up from the mast base. Boom Vang Tang is located 28" back from the front of the boom. It is a shockcord vang. Bob

bob- chris w. shared your pics with me late last nite, thanks so much! Couple of quick questions. 1. The diamond shaped reinforcing plates under the rotator - did u make them, or take them off another boat? 2. Murrys has the arms, with two different hole sizes. Use the 1/4" ones? 3. Does the boom vang provide the pull for the positive rotation once you let loose the rotator arm rope from the cleat? Thanks again so much for your help!! Paul |

The current mast limiter on my 14 has fixed stops which limit the mast rotation with respect to the frame of the boat. However, you can also limit the mast rotation with respect to the boom. Seems limiting with respect to the boom would be best but without trying it, who knows. Which is the better way? Looking forward to seeing more pictures on this! |

Walt, Anytime you can alter the sail entry and its effect on the leech is a good thing. Downwind rotating past the old, stock stops is also a huge plus. If stops were faster the A cat fleet would be using it!

These came with the rotation kit. Can be purchased from any Hobie dealer. Originally a Hobie 18 mast rotation piece. 2. Murrays has the arms, with two different hole sizes. Use the 1/4" ones? Ask Matt Miller. I just used the bolt the kit came with; seemed small. 3. Does the boom vang provide the pull for the positive rotation once you let loose the rotator arm rope from the cleat? No. All the boom vang does is hold out the boom. I'll let you know what works after I sail the little beasty this weekend. Hope that helped! Bob

Thanks Bob! Great answers, I'll call a dealer, see how much they want for a kit. Good luck sailing with the new rig, hope it works well. I'll see how you do before I drill a big hole in my mast
