I am interested to know why some rig the jib sail using blocks. My jib has the sheets connected directly to the sheet plate with a shackel. That works well in my situation, although this area seems to hang up on the mast occasionally when tacking. Hobo[/img] |

The small blocks let the sheet run through them faster and allow you to tack without hang-ups. I would recommend using a very small diameter jib sheet. Typically, you would have the two clew blocks attached to the jib with a small shackle. To get the jib from hanging up on the mast, tie a bungee line from one side of the front beam, then pass it through the middle of the cleat on the front of the mast and then tie it to the front frame on the other side. Make sure your jib sheet is above the bungee. This way, it is held up in the air and won't catch on anything. Hope this helps.. |

I have a system like this on the reacher on my 17. It (bungee) passes through a eyelet about three feet up the mast and the sheets have never hung up. Doug |
