So i riggedmy boat today for the first time... i was looking at the tiller extention... and am kind of confused. When the boom and traveler on the oposite side of the boat from where i am sitting, and the extention is on my side of the traveler... i am ok. BUT, when i switch sides, and the traveler goes to the side i was on... now the extention is hooked behind the traveler. how do i fix this while sailing? as i said i am new, thanks yall |

The tiller swings aft and around. Face aft and hand the tiller across from one hand to the other. |

Over in Va Beach, we do a 'Rookie Race' every summer and we have a pretty decent fleet of 14s. You may want to check us out. www.hobiefleet32.org We'd be glad to take you out sometime! |

i dont know what kind of wind youve been sailing in, but i stopped using the extension after about ten minutes of sailing when i first started. i just let it hang behind it and use the crossbar. it helped me get used to the movements of a catamaran more. once i got the hang of it, i just slowly moved the tiller around the blocks and did it in one reach around as the traveler moved across. if you time it right on a roll tack, it becomes really really easy, and i dont just mean out of habit. i mean it feels like youre just switching hands. on gybes, you can just hold it onto the crossbar on the opposite side so that youre ready to steer when the boom whips across. good luck. |
