Isn't that new. The Germans have been pushing it for a few years. Helps them sell more boats and helps keep Hobie 14 production viable. That fat head main would be tough to trim well on a Comptip mast - they don't have that problem. |

Is that square top sail class legal in the US? Is it available from US dealerships? Anyone running one with a turbo rig? |

No. Dan Berger was, but I think he's moved on from the 14. I haven't heard from him in a while. Both Whirlwind and Calvert will build you a square-head main. But it's going to make the boat even more pitchpole-prone. |

To heck with the flat-top, they're just a bad idea. But did anyone notice that the hulls on that new Euro H14 were BLUE? Love 'em!! The Ausies built some red H16 hulls a couple years ago and now I'm seeing blue hulls from Europe. Is there any possibility of colored hulls becoming available again in the US? Perhaps importing some blue or maybe even yellow Euro 14 hulls, kind of like the Aussie H18 hulls that were imported not too long ago? Would Matt and Matt care to comment? Thanks. |

Hobie will build you a colored boat. It's all a matter of $. Or should I say $$$$? Getting a new 14 from Europe is hard enough - a specific colored one? Now you're talking $$,$$$. |

When I bought my 16 back in 2011 I asked a dealer, Mariner Sails in Dallas, about special ordering yellow decks on white hulls (my favorite retro hull color) and they said that Hobie Cat was adamantly against doing special order colored hulls. Perhaps HC has mellowed on that over the past few years. |

Don't know about "mellowing", but they built a custom one for John John Florence (surfer) last year: ![]() https://www.facebook.com/HobieCatCompan ... =1&theater |

Nice. One of my buddies had those hulls back in the mid 70's. |

Wow, I think? I just don't know what to think about those hulls or the sail. The orange hulls in the foreground are pretty nice. |
