Post subject:  first hobie 14

Hi all, I just got my first hobie 14 this week and I am looking forward to rebuilding it. I am not new to the sailing world, but and relatively new to sailing hobies 14.
Be for sailing hobie 14, I sailed 420’s so looking forward to the change in sailing styles. I have a few questions on getting a jib and trap kit, where and how do I get a hold of them. Looked on Ebay had no luck there but I am hoping some one can point me in the right direction.

Welcome to the Hobie Way of Life, chief!

Make sure you have a dolphin striker installed before you install the jib or the trapeze. A broken front crossbar will be the result if you don't.

Trap wires you can get any where - you can get them made up at any marine store that carries 3/32" 1x19 stainless steel wire.

The jib kit is more problematic - you can order a new one from a Hobie dealer or Murray's, or keep looking on eBay - they turn up every now and then.

Where do you sail?

Welcome to the club of the mad cats
prepare your boat and practice in righting first of all .
Remember when you go fast to keep your weight back!
feel free to ask anything about it here .

420 is a great boat ,but H14turbo is greater!!!

I sail on both, but I prefer ocean better because I like the sensation of flying over the waves.

Thanks for the help about trapeze and the jib I will get them hopeful later on this year.

Basically the thing get right first on the 14 is keeping the weight as far back as physically possible, otherwise you will take a trip towards the bow. Also make sure you can right the boat solo, as it can be really hard, especially if your mast leaks. congrates on your new boat.
