Does anyone sail multi-day expeditions on a Hobie 14T? I was inspired by Jesse Martin's 1000km trip with his Dad on a 14ft cat http://users.tpg.com.au/kkmiller/jessem ... rtin1.html and keen to know if anyone has done similar on a hobie 14 T? I've done a few overnighters in Northern Territory, Australia 2 years ago, and had a ball. I'm planning a 200Km sail in July from Darwin, total weight (including me) will be around 100Kg I'd be interested if anyone has any opinions on whether it's worth ruggedizing the H14T rig, or just mitigate risk by carrying spares, and sailing to conditions. If ruggedizing is an option, what are the most worthwhile mods? It's a 1983 boat Cheers! |

Jakun, if you make yourself known on our Facebook group https://m.facebook.com/groups/SouthEast ... bieSailing A few guys there have done trips on their Hobie's mainly 16s, might be able to give you some tips. There are going to do the Great Keppel Island trip in April The 14 doesn't like to carry extra weight, tends to bury the bow to much. I think Jessie did it on a Caper cat which is more buoyant and has a fuller bow than the H14 Good Luck and enjoy, watch out for crocs ! Steve |

Hi jakun, As Steve said, come and join us on our fb site where we push the bounds of these great cats beyound racing around markers. Our trip to the Keppel Islands starts this Saturday. I will be sailing my H16 there with all my camping gear/food/clothing for just under aweek. We also have a brother group for the Calypso's and Caper Cats here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1531523 ... =bookmarks Yes Jesse Martin did that trip on a 14ft Caper Cat and others are doing the exact same type of sailing/camping and sharing their experiences here. Cheers Matt |
