| Post subject: | Righting techniques |
Just curious, I'm new to sailing and I have had my hobie cat 14 out just once so far, have not tipped it yet luckily. Im just curious on the best way to right a tipped cat? The guy who I bought it from has ropes wrapped around the two arms that hold the trampoline on on each side. Wasn't sure if they were for hanging onto to hoist her up or if I use them a different way. |

uncleat your sail(s) so they don't catch water and weigh you down, move the boat so the wind comes at bow/mast at a 45 degree angle each (split the difference). Climb onto the hull that's in the water, grab the righting line (rope wrapped around the pylons), and lean back. As the boat comes up grab something to prevent it from tipping the other way. Make sure to hold on to something as you get back in position to climb back on. |

Pretty much what coreboarder said! 14's like to turtle- if she's turtled, get on the leeward hull and use the above procedure. Lean back and pull steadily, shift your weight fore and aft to keep the mast pointed into the wind. As she comes up the wind will help to push her up. When she comes up, grab the down hull or a line on that side to keep from blowing over the other way. |
