Hey folks, I was looking for some advice reguarding my Turbo. Using a chain plate extention between the jib and the furler, I recently raked my mast far enough to make my sheet go nearly block to block. This has left my jib rather high, which from what I've heard is sub-optimal. Will it really make a difference to put the forestay extention above the pigtail and lower the jib 8 inches? Also, since raking my mast so severely, it has stopped rotating on its own or with any ease. I do have a teflon cup in my mast base and it rotated without fail before being raked. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks a lot, -Sam Mc |

I'm not an expert on the subject, but from what I've seen and experienced, if you're going block-to-block on a 14, then you're probably raked back too far (assuming you're using low profile blocks). The guys that I see racing (non-turbo 14s) always seem to have about 6-8" between the blocks when fully sheeted. It's not rigged like a 16 where you want as much rake as possible. sm |

I have the adjuster above the swivel, I think it makes a difference. I find it easier to keep the tell tales flowing on the back side of the main - but that is my only benchmark. I also had mast rotation interference and had to back off the rake to allow rotation. I started investigating a new mast step. It is the same as a H16 step which, I assume, allows more rake. |

I hear about some guys putting multiple Teflon cups or even bottle caps in the mast base to allow rotation with more rake. Has anyone here tried this? |

I have the "permanent" Delrin chip with nub installed on my 14 and it is a noticeable bit thicker than the teflon chips but..as srm stated, I sail uni and we don't go block to block you can always file on the aft side of the step casting (too mimic newer) if you have interference |
