Post subject:  H14T Jib Dimensions

Does anyone have the stock sail dimensions for the H14T Jib? I just purchased a used H14T to add to my "fleet" (H16 and Bravo). The sails are in great shape, but aftermarket made by SuperSailmakers of Ft. Lauterdale. (Carumba pattern). I noticed on first sail that it was very difficult to trim the jib well and could never get the leech to stay tight - billowed constantly. Since the sails are aftermarket, I wanted to compare my jib dimensions to stock. I found this online, but hoping someone could validate:

Luff 12.75ft
Foot 5ft
Leech 11.92ft

I am also going to examine rig set up next time I am down at the boat, but it is pretty tight (although thoughts are always welcome here as I am new to 14s).

Thanks in advance!

I can't answer your question about jib dimensions, but there are a few factors which would effect leech tension. Mast rake would certainly be one. The angle of the jib sheet (between the clew and the cleats on the tramp) and the age of the sail (if it's blown out) are others. Since the jib block position on the 14T is fixed, you really can't do much about that. But one thing you can do would be to add an adjustable clew plate (if not already installed) onto your jib. Move the jib blocks up on the plate to increase leech tension and down to reduce leech tension.

Thanks, SRM. Currently the jib does not have a multi hole clew plate, like my 16 does. That is definitely on the list for an offseason add. The jib still feels pretty crisp, but it is lighter weight than stock Hobie sails. That said, because of its condition, I don't think it is really blown. Hoping validating the dimensions may give me more indication there. I am also working with someone who knows H14Ts well on the rig setup.

Thanks, again!
