I can't get the trap wires, shrouds and forestay under the original shackle. It's a 3/16" pin, bow type. It worked before, until I melded together some new rigging and the "best" from a donor 14??? also converted from Turbo to standard... trashed canned the stuff that had frays so no evidence of it working before remains. I suppose the thimbles are wider? ![]() ![]() Does anyone hang two smaller shackles for the trap wires? Or should I just go buy a 1/4" pin shackle? |

John, I employ 2 very small shackles for the trap wires. It eliminates all the fuss upstairs. I also use the larger 1/4" pin sized shackle for the shrouds and forestay. Works for me. Bob ![]() |

Thank you, Sir It's only a two day event, but any thought of coming to the Daggerless Regatta? Have 21 potential H14's on the list and about 16 committed. ![]() |

Yea, Bob, get your a## in your car, bring me a Hooters shirt from Pensacola (xl) and head on up and do another GEP. I figure if I see enough of your GEPs someday I'll be good on a 14! |

I don't have a lot of congestion but I am using the stock shrouds from Hobie. They are small, maybe 3/32. They look the same as the trap wires. I think I remember that Bob has thicker shrouds on his 14. Is that where the congestion comes from? Where do you get the thicker shrouds? Are they class legal? cheers Bill Jeffers 04 h16 84 h14 88 h17 |

I got a couple of set of rigging from SaltyDog and they seem a bit thicker, which I like for my kids boats for sure. We have had shroud failure a couple of times and its pretty scary, but I don't know what would cause crowding at the top. I did find that we had to grind the shackle a bit to get the bigger shackle to work with the loops on the ends of the shouds/trap lines. |

Bridle 5 foot 7/8 inches Forestay 12 foot 8 and 3/4 inches Shroud 15 foot 3 and 1/4 inches Bill, Who's to say they can't be 1/8"? Is it a "loophole"? More like peace of mind. |

I finally found this photo on the hard drive: ![]() Use the larger shackle from a 16 and put the trap wires on the pin of the shackle. This is the way the original 16s were rigged before the "3-hole" hound was introduced. It's kinda hard on the thimbles, but no worries yet. |
