Using all the advice I got here, I got my forestay connected, but the side shrouds are still very loose. I read about loose rigs, but don't not how loose is too loose. I am parked on a slight uphill when I rig it, so that might have something to do with it, but I don't want to go out and be at risk of de-masting. SHould I try it when I am on a slight downhill and see if that corrects things?

Racers tend to run the rig very loose. The rule of thumb is to grab the shroud in your hand and while gripping the shroud, be able to twist your hand 90 degrees to horizontal. With the rig that loose, there is a high risk of the mast jumping out of the step in a capsize. To prevent this, the tail of the main halyard is wrapped several times between the halyard cleat and the dolphin striker post. This limits the vertical travel of the mast.

For day sailing, I would just tighten the rig up so it’s snug and can’t jump the step.

Thanks SRM. Sounds like I might be worrying too much. There's no way I'd be able to turn my hand 90 degrees. All I'm doing is lake day sailing so I think I'll be good.
