Hello,

My son was sailing our 1998 H14 and the boom cracked into two pieces.

I've looked on Ebay and Craiglist and can only find a couple of used ones and they are more expensive to ship than buy.

Has anyone figured out a way to maybe "splint" the boom?

I have seen (on Youtube) methods of fixing Sunfish cracked booms but they are shaped such that you can use chain-link fencing top rails to create the splint.
For the H14, I would have to figure out a way to split it with something C-shaped or U-shaped

Just throwing a dart here to see if someone has encountered and solved this in the past (but will not hold my breath)

Thank you!

Wow, never heard of a boom just breaking in half.

I don’t know about splinting it. I would look for a replacement - the Hobie 16 uses the same extrusion as the 14 (only longer), so don’t limit your search to only the 14. I think you will have a lot more luck sourcing a used 16 boom. Then you just need to cut it to length and install the block hanger in the right location.

I’ve got a spare old 16 boom (two bails) that is surplus. I’m in Delaware. Always happy to help a fellow Hobie sailor, so if you can figure out a way to get it to you, it’s yours. Let me know.

Thank you very much for the kind offer!

I was able to buy an H16 off of Craigslist somewhat locally and will cut it down

Thanks again for the offer!!

I have a 14 boom that is in good shape. Let me know where you are and we'll see if It makes sense to get it to you.
