Post subject: | What should I get for my 1984 Hobie 14 Turbo |
Well this summer me and my family got a 1984 Hobie 14 turbo. It's in pretty good condition, especially the hulls and the sails. Christmas is comming up and I have nothing on my list so I was thinking maybe I could get some parts to help upgrade it and maybe go faster. So my question is what should I get for it that will hopefully help it go faster and not be too much money. Pretty soon I'm gonna fill in some surface scratches and nics with some epoxy but other than that what else should I do for it. The only thing I was thinking was a new tramp and I need trap lines. Thanks guys |

An aftermarket mesh tramp for a 'Turbo' can be had for $245 from a guy in CA, or a few bucks more from Hobiecat. Ck the web. Live slow, sail fast Ralph |

If a tramp is in the price range go for it. If I didn't have anything specific I ould just say have them get you some random parts. Shackles, pins, maybe a new mainsheet block depending on what your current one is. |

yeah I don't know a new tramp would make it look a lot better but the one on there now probably has a pretty good life left so do you think there's anything else that will help performance wise. |

This is one of the most common questions. People always ask what they can do to make their boat faster. In all honesty a new set of sails would be good and is probably where the biggest improvements could be had. But there is nothing like spending time on the water. I am sure there are several little things like performance rudders, new mainsheet blocks that might help with a little bit of speed but none of those will make up for 1 blown tack. |

Take a look at the EPO2 rudders from Hobie. They have a nice variety of colors and they look great. |

I agree with John (hobieokc). Spend some time getting your rudder system working properly and aligned. New rudders (especially the EPO's) will improve the helm feel and control, especially in heavy air. On my 14, I can set the tiller down and the boat will track fairly straight. That's what you're trying to achieve. |

An '84? You don't want that tank. I'll trade you a 73 AND a 74 for it. That way you'd have 2 boats, and I'll only have one. Merry Christmas. |

I would be very interested in an 84 H14. I understand those were some of the lightest manufactured. |

Or what about a 67, hull number 242, that is an antique. Worth alot more than you 84, lets trade. |

I am having some serious seller's remorse. There are some other Div 14 sailors that are talking about racing 14's more often. |
