At 1/10th the cost of an Inter20, the MAXI rig sailed to a tie-break and won the White or Wheat regatta in Pensacola, Fl. There was to much wind for the reacher up wind but really put on the afterburner going downhill. Trapezing upwind and blasting downwind; WAHOO!! Bob

What exactly is a Maxi rig? Is there a limit on how much it can be used... like only 4-6 days, once a month? |

You can sail it about any time, but it is a handfull in the big wind. Typically, under about 8 kts is about all you can sail it upwind, but downwind is open for all weather. I had mine at Spring Fever and there were times when we were the only boats moving in the really light stuff. Chip Buck at Point sails makes a mean Hooter (foresail), so contact him if you want one. Here is a pic of a rig that is very close to Bob's. I have sold this set-up, but I have a white Hooter for sale and I can also give details on rigging your boat for the sail. You should see my new one! I used a 2 piece carbon pole that is 10.5 feet long. I ran a carriage bolt through the front crossbeam and I juat slide the pole onto the end of the bolt. I attached another tang to the mast about 11 inches from the head and put a swivel block on it. The furler is a standard Harken small boat above-bridle furler and you have to have the upper furler for it to work. I use Oxen blocks at the same place as the jib blocks--I run the Hooter without the jib. I also set up a barber-hauler system to pull the Hooter outward. Not a hard rig to set up. I have some other pictures of the new sails that I need to get on line.. Dan |

One more thing, the sailmaker is Chip Buck at http://www.whirlwindsails.com/ not Point. He changed names of his loft and I keep calling it by the old name. Click on the "Super R" link and pan down to the H14 Super R. That is another of my sails. Chip just made me a black version of that sail--pretty cool. |

Hey Kollac, I'm on the VT side, but I know what you are saying. I spent a few hours out Sunday afternoon. Launched from St. Albans bay, and did a straight shot to grand isle, in less than a half hour. Flying, absolutely flying! I made it back past Burton Island in about 20 mintues on the way back. No tacking! This is my first summer on the lake with my Hobie. I had it down on Cape Cod last year. I was a little worried about being bored, but good ol' Champ has blown me around quite a bit this summer! |

I can get you a new jib for $225 and I have a used furler for $75. I don't have the bridles or the upper furler/pigtail. |

^ was that for me? if it was...offer sounds nice, but I'm about to spend 3 grand on this semester's tuition so I really have to watch where I put my pennies. Hence, I don't think a new jib is a must just yet. I wouldn't mind an old one though, of course, depending on the price. Next summer (now having a boat) I'll have a lot more change to throw around
