I will be sailing out of Bokeelia on Pine Island, Florida in southern Charlotte Harbor this March and would like any information on sailing in this area. Any information on where to sail, what to watch out for, where to find a nice beach to lunch on, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

I launch my Hobie 21SE right next door to the ferry business on Pine Island from a small earth ramp at the Tow Boat U.S. property.Call them at 239-283-6060... They charge a very small fee ($6 maybe) for launching and vehicle storage. They are a great bunch of guys. We usually sail out to Caya Costa State Park and camp there. At night, park your boat in Pelican Bay (east side of island) but sail off the west beach during the day. Look for the tallest silver colored dead tree to find the path to the camping area on the west side of the island..... Amaze your crew by find the right spot to beach your boat...you may be able to see an old water tower just right at the tops of the tree if your lucky. :)

It is a good idea to pay Tow US to run someone out to Island with all your camping gear and coolers.I believe the fee for that is $150 round trip on your schedule. The ferry boat will only let you take out a limited amount of camping gear and got rude with my daughter...

I may be there around March 24th to April 2nd........ 8) once we get back from our Key West trip out to Fort Jefferson March 16th to the 22nd.

So we have been to Cabbage Key, Cayo Costa, and North Captiva on our powerboat, and are now considering trading it in for a Hobie 16. Would it be feasible to go to these places from Pine Island in a Hobie 16. We are certified and have some experiences--but we are still pretty new sailors--so assume we know nothing.
