I have owned the 14, 16 and 18 years ago (16 was my favorite) and want to have one last Cat before the crematory door gets any closer!
When I lived in Houston, we headed to 14 mile Beach Road and pulled our Jeep and Cat onto the beach, yanked the Hobie off the trailer, launched and sailed! Was great.

I live in Chapel Hill, NC now and can't find any place on the coast here where you can do that. I do have a Mercedes Sprinter RV that I plan on pulling the Hobie 16 with and then camping in the evening somewhere close to this "mystical beach" site.

Suggestions on the coast of NC, or even SC?

(Jordan Lake is really close but I had two doctors suggest NOT to sail on it due to pollution!)

Thanks,
Jack

Not to sure about the camping part of the equation, but I've launched my tandem island from several places near Nags Head, NC.
Many local cat sailors launch from this site on the sound:

Launched on the beach side as well on a perfect low surf day:

Also have also launched from Oregon Inlet and Manteo. Further south on the OBX can get 4x4 beach driving permit and drive out and launch most places on the ocean side. Have been down to the Hatteras point with friends that have way more capable offload vehicles than me but never had the chance to take my Hobie TI.

Thanks for info on OBX. Given the distance from Chapel Hill of OBX, I'm hoping to find a launch site in the Wilmington area, or some place within about a 2.75 hour drive from home.
