Seems all the Cat sailors from Michigan are on the west coast. Nothing against that: we all know west Michigan is beautiful...

Meanwhile, in the suburbs, flat lands, and industrial scape of S.E. Michigan:

If you're a east sider, you're not out of options. Lake St Clair is a good option for local open water sailing. My usual launch is from the nearby Metro Park. If you want a good time, launching from the dailsail ramp is so much quicker than waiting at the marina ramps. It's a little dirty, but the sand launch is pretty good if your ok the smell of lake muck on your feet.

The State Parks also offer launch ramps into Lake St Clair. It's usually from cement ramps through.

Of course there is also Stoney Creek Metropark, with on site storage for 400/summer and 200/winter, it overs a long inland lake in the north suburbs of Detroit, where you can also store your boat on trailer nearby. There are at least 10 cats in the yard, (and 3 getaways too!)

Any S.W. Michigan sailors want to give their 2c?

I used to live in SE Michigan, sailing a Hobie 18 and a 21sc party barge.

In order of preference,
CRAM events, A great opportunity to sail with other beach cats. You will learn quickly in this environment.

Creekfleet at stoney creek. hard to beat weekly sailing

The ramp near Selfridge, The water in the NE part of the lake is more like Huron and less like the Clinton river. In addition the shorelines have less sea walls, so this part of the lake has less washing machine chop.

Whatever Ramp is closest.
