Post subject: | H-17 Crossbar Anchor Bar Bolt Repair |
Had seized bolt on H-17 crossbar anchor pin. Bolt head stripped out while trying to remove. Solution: 1. Drilled out top of bolt with 9/32 in drill bit. Used Relton cutting fluid to help drill cut thru the stainless steel. 2. Used Hanson EX-5 extractor (same as Easy Out) to twist off the bolt head. 3. Pushed down bolt thru cross bar with screw driver. 4. Replaced anchor bar and bolt. Suggest you use 5/16 in -18 NC tap to clean up Anchor Bar threads prior to installation. Tight cross bar bolts critical on H-17. We tighten every day. Now take required tools to all Regattas. Caleb Tarleton H-17, 144, 6185. 6446 |

Had seized bolt on H-17 crossbar anchor pin. Bolt head stripped out while trying to remove. Solution: 1: Use hacksaw blade to cut through bolt at crossbar / hull interface. 2: Remove old bits of bolt and anchor bar. 3: Replace with new bolt and anchor bar already in spare parts bin. ![]() Dave Wilder just mentioned he uses Permatex Nickel Antiseize, part # 77124. How about that current at Jericho? Always a fun place to sail. Caleb |
