im about to start a repairing extensive blisters and some hairline cracks and a few chips in the hulls of a hobie 16. the vessel is a '76. I pulled it out from underneath the deck where it had lain dormant for about six years and laid the hulls upside down on saw horses for about three weeks. I didnt notice anything then, but when i just went to move one into the garage to start the work, I noticed that when i press down on certain spots in the center of the deck, i get a sound like walking through snow, its a bit of a crunch really. the weather outside is getting to around 50, is it possible that could have something to do with it? is this a typical sign of delamination? |

Don't thank me... I hate telling people they have delam. But if the alternative is not telling them then having the mast come down and hurt someone, I'll be brutally honest every time. I'm guessing that delam was why the boat was under the dock. See if you can find a local "Hobie Pro" to go over the boat with you. There's no sense in throwing a bunch of money at soft hulls if they truly are soft. Sorry... |
