building myself a storage box on the trailer.

polyurethaned (helmsman spar stuff) the wood, but now thinking to change the design layout of my hinges...

I may just glass the hinges to the wood...

Will glass/polyester resin stick to polyurethaned wood?

box is about 12 feet long.... 26 inches wide... 16 inches high.
Top will open fully, from the side by the trailer wheel allowing you
to just place the boom, etc right in... no sliding, etc, etc...

the rear end will, however open for limited access to things while boat is on the trailer.

THANKS ! just one of a million winter boat projects. 8)

It's only as good as the bond of the varnish to the wood.

I'd sand it down to bare wood and use epoxy (W.E.S.T. System), not polyester to do what you're thinking. Lots stronger, lots more sticky.

If you are going to give the wood a fiberglass & resin skin I'd recommend glassing the inside surfaces too, or give it one ---- of a varnish job inside. Big question for you...what type of wood are you using? It may make a difference. The wood can take on a fair amount of moisture given you will probably be cramming lots of wet things in it. When this happens the wood may swell and warp, causing the glass to de-laminate. Karl, what do think? Also, I strongly recommend using all stainless steel hardware. Rust stains on a new main sail don't look very good.
