Post subject:  pitting-of H16 Mast

some pitting and surface de-gradation has occured on the side of my H16 mast, apparantly where it rested in the rubberized trailer cradle for years. we are almost done refurbishing the boat and was abouut to work over the mast and noticed FOUR pitted spots, the largest about like a pencil eraser... the depth is about, half the wall thickness(Guess)
can someone give thoughts as to the chance for this to contribute to failure of the mast under loading... the four areas are above the luff entrance, about 5'........just trying to figure if my next step is some kind of fix?...or going sailing :? or shopping for a new mast.??

Maybe a photo? I don't think they will be an issue, but of in-line like a perforation? I would think an aircraft type of repair using a plate covering the area and many rivets would be good insurance.

If the area is very small it is probably no problem
A Hobie mast is full of rivets which are really just holes with plugs
I would clean the area and put a rivet in the hole and check each time you go out
Hobie masts are really tough and really first class materials
FYI get your rivets from a Hobie Dealer
