Hi

The mast rotation stopper on the mast step and on the mast base of my hobie 16 are worned out. Did someone have an idea on how to rebuid those stoppers since i want to avoid the replacement of these two parts that would cost me over 150$ here in Canada.
Maybe someone have used part for me ;) (in good condition) !

Thanks

Try rebuilding the stops with a dense epoxy, like JB Weld.

Make sure to clean the surfaces thoroughly so it sticks well.

One old way to do this was to file more of the stop off (half the diameter of a chosen stainless bolt). Drill and tap the step for stainless bolts. Thread in and cut off flush with the top of the stops, then grind off flat surfaces for new stop positions. Never done this one, but made some sense.

I can't imagine epoxy holding up to the repeated impacts.

This assumes the mast step is the only worn part. In most cases the mast base is equally worn. It's not that hard to just replace both of them at the same time. The new parts are far better (beefier) than the old ones and support more mast rake.

He is trying to keep from spending the money.

Maybe grind out, have a very good welder add some material and grind back to shape.
